Familiar
Countless times over 20 years, I walked through this location, which is not far from my apartment, gone to nearby stores or restaurants, and stood watching the light.
Sometimes we see places in our neighborhood so often that they are easily taken for granted. But I try to stop, take quiet moments with them and absorb what has become a part of life. I recognize their meaning as a setting in the history of my own biography.
It's not necessarily the flawed design of such places that makes them special. What is more important is that they are so familiar. I can point to countless places all over the city that speak to me in their own unique way, because we have shared life together.
Even if no one else knows.
