Words and Images

Marc: Words and Images is a journal that contains essays, poems and photographs involving personal history, travels and thoughts on a variety of topics. It reveals places, people and episodes that have meaning for me. There is no single theme.

I am a photographer and writer with a career in publishing, based in New York City. I was born in America, as were almost all of my ancestors going back many generations. My race, as determined mostly by the government, is black, although that label does not convey the true diversity in my background.

I am a thoughtful and independent person. I have always been creative and open minded. My visual work includes a significant amount of now historic photojournalism, originally created for companies, institutions and major publishers, and my images have been published in thousands of educational books. I have also taken portraits of friends, coworkers, neighbors and other people I have met over the last five decades. My personal interests include architecture and cityscapes, nature/sunsets and altered images. 

I have also written over 500 non-fiction articles, autobiographical and biographical essays and fiction stories, as well as approximately 500 poems, all accompanied by original photographs. However, many of my works are too strong to allow general public access.

I am drawn to the beauty and peace in the simplest things: sunshine, blue skies, mountains, forests, valleys and oceans. I am also very much an urban person, living in  the biggest city in North America, as well as having visited several major cities in the U.S., Canada and Europe more than once. I am always open to people from other cultures and countries.
